Waitawa Regional Park - Auckland Trail Run & Walk Series
Waitawa Regional Park on the south east coast of Auckland features looped trail courses across three small peninsulas with frequent sea views and stretches of native bush. Trails include a road climb at the start, single-track sections, bermed corners and fast rolling mountain bike-style trails that run around the park.
Distances and total climb:
- Short: 8 km, 246 m total climb
- Mid: 11.5 km, 370 m total climb
- Long (run only): 17.5 km, 576 m total climb
- Super Long (run only): 21.5 km, 668 m total climb
Course layouts note one full lap for the mid course, one full plus a half lap for the long course, and two full laps for the super long course. Drink stations are positioned on course at specified kilometre markers and provide PURE electrolyte hydration, water, ready salted chips, biscuits, oranges and lollies.
Safety and biosecurity guidance includes cleaning and disinfecting footwear to protect kauri, staying on tracks away from kauri roots, and recommended personal kit such as a 500 ml to 1 litre hydration pack, a basic first aid kit, a cell phone, a whistle and extra warm clothing. Event medics are based at the event base and marshals with first aid may be present on course. Parking at the event base can be limited and is weather dependent.
