Viking Way Ultra

The Viking Way Ultra is a non stop 147 mile ultra-marathon along the Viking Way, beginning in the Humber Bridge area and finishing in Oakham near Rutland Water. The route passes through the Lincolnshire Wolds and uses marked Viking Way symbols as route markers.

The course is well marked but not flat, with a total ascent of 2,295 m. The distance must be completed within 40 hours. There are cut off points at 50 miles and 100 miles; the event includes two major checkpoints and a total of around eight checkpoints spaced at roughly 15–18 miles apart.

Support is limited. Basic food is provided at major checkpoints and snacks, gels and drinks are available at all checkpoints. All runners are tracked with TrackTrail. Finishers receive a medal and a t-shirt; results and photos are published after the event.

Entries are limited to 40 and are prioritised by ultra-running experience; a previous non stop 100 mile finish is the minimum prerequisite. The entry fee is £180 and there are no refunds, transfers or deferrals. No crews or pacers are allowed, no GPS navigation is permitted and all route sections must be covered on foot only. A compulsory personal kit must be carried at all times, and there is no medical support provided during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
