About the race
The Vedder Mountain Challenge is a two-day race weekend at Cultus Lake, BC, organized by Heads or Trails. The event combines trail running on Saturday with a multisport day on Sunday that pairs stand up paddleboard (SUP), a bike leg, and a run. Sunday’s multisport is offered solo or as a three person relay; relays are capped at 50 teams.
Trail run options start and finish at Cultus Lake and include:
- 35K with about 1,900 m / 6,234 ft of elevation gain.
- 15K with about 650 m / 2,133 ft of elevation gain.
The multisport day uses SUP only on the water; kayaks, canoes, surf skis and other watercraft are not allowed. Any non motorized off road pedal bike is permitted for the bike leg. The bike course is described as steep at the beginning and end and flatter in the middle; gravel bikes are noted as faster for experienced riders while mountain bikes may suit less experienced riders and reduce steep climb difficulty. Short hike a bike sections are possible on the bike course.
Aid stations on the trail runs are stocked with Näak and GroundSpeed nutrition and the event uses cutoffs at checkpoints. Strava routes are provided for the trail distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
