Vashon Island Ultramarathon & Trail Run

The Vashon Island Ultramarathon & Trail Run is a trail running event on Vashon Island, Washington. The event offers looped distances that all start and finish at the Gateway Trail system near SW 178th and 103rd SW. Entry is limited to 200 participants and the event operates under a USATF sanction and Safe Sport policies.

Distances

  • 50K three loops of the course
  • 20 mile two loops of the course
  • 10 mile one loop of the course

The course runs mainly on single track and double track park trails, with short sections of dirt road, gravel driveway, grass shoulder and paved road. Elevation gain is about 770 feet per loop, and some short steep hills and rooty or obstructed sections can challenge footing. The route travels through Island Center Forest and passes features such as Fisher Pond, Mukai Pond and the perimeter of Dragons Head Cider Farm. Portions cross both public and private land and the trail is not closed to other users; runners may encounter equestrians, pedestrians and bicyclists.

Aid stations are located near miles 6 and 10 and 50K runners pass those stations three times. Base camp returns occur roughly every ten plus miles and drop bag support is available. Porta potties are provided at 0, 0.5, 1.4 and 6 miles. A map and GPX file are provided to entrants before the event. Camping on Friday night is available in the grass field at the start/finish with porta potties and water jugs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
