About the race
Valley Vertikiller is a trail race on Teq’qéyex (Sumas Mountain) in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia. The event takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sema:th (Sumas) First Nation and is scheduled for October 10, 2026.
The race uses single-track trails through towering forests, past Chadsey Lake and rushing creeks, and offers multiple viewpoints of the Fraser Valley. Courses are described as technical and include substantial vertical gain and flowy downhill sections. Aid stations are well stocked; finish-line food is provided, including homemade soup and pie to coincide with Canadian Thanksgiving. Finishers receive custom racer swag and the race awards podium and cash prizes to the top three finishers. Additional prizes include $500 cash for the first-place team, rewards for new course records, and draw prizes.
The event offers a team challenge for the 30 km distance. Teams consist of five or more runners and results are based on the combined finish times of the fastest five members. Team members receive a registration discount.
Distances:
- 30 km nearly 1,500 m elevation gain
- 20 km nearly 1,000 m elevation gain
- 10 km 400 m elevation gain, called the Verticuddler
