Vail HillClimb : 50th running
The Vail HillClimb is a mountain trail race in Vail, Colorado, presented by Vail's Mountain Haus and Discover Vail. The course follows a historic uphill route from Vail Village to Mid Vail and celebrates the event's 50th year.
The official course distance is 12.2K (7.6 miles) with 2,128 feet of elevation gain. The route ranges from about 8,160 feet to 10,254 feet in elevation, is roughly 80% dirt and gravel roads and 20% paved, and reaches a maximum grade of 13.5%. A GPX map is available for pre-running and physical maps are provided at the race.
There are three aid stations located at Mile 2.1 (Mill Creek / Gitalong Rd split), Mile 3.8 (bottom of Avanti Lift) and Mile 5.9 (below Eagle's Nest). Water is available at all aid stations and Skratch Hydration sport drink will be provided. The series operates as a minimal waste race and participants are encouraged to bring reusable hydration devices or cups.
Registration options include online, week-of and day-of in person; preregistration and day-of fees are listed by the organizer and youth entries receive a 35% discount. Participants must sign a Vail Resorts release of liability form and pick up race bibs at the Colorado Snowsports Museum.
Every finisher receives a commemorative medal. Race shirts are distributed at the finish with alternating materials, donuts and fresh fruit are provided at the finish, and prizes are awarded to the top three men and women in standard age groups.
