Thorne Head Trail Run

The Thorne Head Trail Run is a community trail event hosted by the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust at Thorne Head Preserve in Bath on October 31, 2026. The course is 2.5 miles with 239 feet of elevation gain and combines single track and wider trails with river views and woodland sections featuring hemlock, white pine, and red pine. The route follows Overlook Trail, then Ridgerunner to the Whiskeag Trail, includes a technical Narrows Trail segment with scenic stops, and finishes back on Overlook Trail.

Participation is limited to 150 runners and the registration fee is $35; additional donations are optional. The event is organized as a noncompetitive community run: there are no bibs, timing chips, or first place prizes. Every finisher receives a unique mug. The run supports local trail maintenance and environmental education programs.

Onsite amenities include a covered bag drop area, two portapotties at start and finish, volunteers stationed for wayfinding and assistance, and a fall themed finisher breakfast with apple cider donuts, coffee, cider, and bacon. There are no aid stations on the course. Pets and running strollers are not allowed; children over 10 may register with a parent signature. The event is held rain or shine unless lightning forces cancellation; registrations are non refundable in that case. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
