Thorne Head Trail Run
The Thorne Head Trail Run is a community-led trail event hosted by the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust at Thorne Head Preserve in Bath. The route covers 2.5 miles with about 239 feet of elevation gain and combines single-track sections, wider trail segments, and riverfront views along the Kennebec River and Whiskeag Creek.
The course follows Overlook Trail, Ridgerunner, Whiskeag Trail, and the Narrows Trail, featuring woodlands with large hemlock, white pines, and red pines, scenic stops, and varied trail features. The run finishes back on the wide Overlook Trail.
Participation is limited to 150 runners. Registration is $35 and proceeds support local trail stewardship and environmental education through the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust. There are no bibs, timing chips, or place prizes; every finisher receives a commemorative mug.
Logistics include parking at Bath Middle School with bus transportation to the start and return buses to vehicles after the run. A covered bag drop will be available. Two portapotties will be provided at start and finish. There are no on-course aid stations; volunteers will be stationed for wayfinding, photos, and assistance.
Pets and running strollers are not allowed. Kids over 10 may register with a parent signature on the waiver. The event runs in rain or shine except for lightning; registrations are non-refundable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
