Random Distance and Timed Event
The Unforeseen is a running event held at the Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, North Carolina. The competition features a unique "random race" format where the final distance is determined by a dice roll just 15 seconds before the start. Based on the roll, the distance can range from 4.5 miles to 27 miles. Additionally, a timed 6-hour option is available where participants complete as many laps as possible within the timeframe.
Course Details
The race takes place on a 2.25-mile loop consisting of flat gravel sections and single-track trails. The route begins and ends near the pavilion behind the nature center. The course sequence follows several specific paths:
- Umbrella Tree trail to South Fork trail
- Sierra trail to Sassafras trail
- Dragonfly Pond loop
- Dragonfly trail back to Umbrella Tree trail
The course is marked with yellow arrows at every trail junction to assist with navigation.
Facilities and Logistics
An aid station is located at the pavilion, providing participants with snacks and water jugs for refills. This area also serves as a first aid point. Participants are provided with free race photographs. Registration is open until the day before the event, and packet pickup occurs on-site on the morning of the race.
