The Unforeseen : Charlotte, NC
The Unforeseen is scheduled for November 14, 2026 at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event is organized by Kingfisher Ultras and offers a trail running format with two options.
Distances
- Random distance: 4.5 to 27 miles, determined by a dice roll 15 seconds before the race
- 6 hour option: complete as many 2.25 mile laps as possible
The course is a 2.25 mile loop of flat gravel and single track that starts and finishes near the pavilion behind the nature center. The trail is marked with yellow arrows at junctions. A general lap route follows Umbrella Tree trail, South Fork, Sierra, Sassafras, past Dragonfly Pond, and back via Dragonfly and Umbrella Tree to the pavilion.
An aid station will be located at the pavilion behind the nature center with snacks, jugs for refills, trash cans, and first aid support. Free race photographs will be provided. A GPX file for the course is available. Bibs must be clearly visible so laps can be accounted for.
Previous dice roll results have produced the minimum distance and near 25 mile outcomes in past years. The winner will receive a Damascus steel knife provided by Arbor Novo. Refunds are 100% within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, and none within 10 days; if the race is canceled, entrants receive a free entry to a future race. Volunteers receive a future race entry.
