The Unforeseen
The Unforeseen is a trail running event organized by Kingfisher Ultras at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC. The race uses a 2.25 mile lap that includes flat gravel and single-track sections. The course is marked with yellow arrows at trail junctions and the start and finish area is located near the pavilion behind the nature center.
There are two formats offered:
- Random distance by dice roll: 4.5 to 27 miles.
- Six hour option: complete as many laps as possible.
The random distance is determined by a dice roll shortly before the race; past rolls produced the lowest possible distance of 4.5 miles in 2024 and just under 25 miles in 2025. Free race photographs are provided. A GPX file is available for the course.
An aid station at the pavilion provides snacks, refill jugs, trash cans, and serves as the first aid point. Bibs must be clearly visible so organizers can account for each lap. The winner will receive a Damascus steel knife supplied by Arbor Novo. Packet pickup takes place on race day before the event. The event’s refund policy returns 100% within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, and no refunds within 10 days; if the race is canceled, entrants are offered a future free race.
