About the race

The Three Shires is a Long Distance Walkers Association challenge event held on Saturday 3 April 2027, starting from Swythamley and Heaton Centre (SK11 0SJ, OL24 grid SJ965631). The event uses a circular route with checkpoints and waypoints that include Gun Hill, The Roaches, Lud's Church, Gradbach, Three Shires Head, Wildboarclough, Danebridge and, on some routes, Shutlingsloe and a Cheshire loop.

Entries are open between 4 January 2027 and 27 March 2027. Entry fees are £11 for LDWA members and £18 for non members. The entry fee includes a detailed route description, refreshments at checkpoints, a meal at the finish and a completion certificate. An event badge is available for £1.50.

Required equipment includes map OL24, compass, whistle, waterproofs and a mug. Retirements must be made only at checkpoints. Dogs are allowed on short leads because of bird nesting season, but dogs are not permitted on the Shutlingsloe loop or inside village halls; entrants are responsible for any problems caused by their dogs and the organisers accept no liability for dog caused injury or damage. Non LDWA members are not covered by LDWA Personal Accident Insurance. If the event is cancelled the organisers will attempt to contact entrants and will refund fees less unavoidable costs.
