The Sawmill Gauntlet
The Sawmill Gauntlet is an endurance event held in Laurens, SC, at 8524 Neely Ferry Road. The course uses a single 2.5 mile loop that repeats through the day. Event divisions include a running division and a ruck division.
Running Division rules use a repeating lap window. A new lap begins every 45 minutes and each competitor must complete one full loop within each window and return to the starting corral before the next lap begins. Missed starts end a competitor’s race. The final remaining runner must complete one last solo 2.5 mile lap to be declared the winner; failure to finish that lap means no winner is declared.
The 12 hour Ruck Division is time based. Participants must carry a 25 lb ruck (dry weight) at all times while on course. Once a participant starts, they continue until their race ends or the 12 hour limit expires. To finish, a participant rings a bell. Short breaks are allowed, but any break longer than 30 minutes or any period of no movement exceeding 30 minutes results in removal. There is no minimum or maximum number of laps. Weight checks are conducted and the clock does not stop.
A side pot tracks total miles by groups such as ultra runners and military or first responders; miles count toward the group total even if an individual does not finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
