The Pilgrimage

The Pilgrimage is a timed, multiroute ultramarathon held May 2, 2027 in Mack, Colorado. The event runs for 150 hours and is limited to 45 runners. It uses five different off-pavement routes that start and finish at a shared home base. Pacers are not allowed. The race offers both crewed and uncrewed divisions; the uncrewed division has separate standings and a lifetime free entry prize for its overall winner.

The terrain mixes single track, dirt roads, and ATV track with no pavement. Average altitude is a bit over 5,000 ft and the course includes desert and Colorado River viewpoints. Navigation is the runner’s responsibility; separate GPX files for each route are required and runners must know how to use them. An RD will be on site 24/7 and runners must check in with an RD after each route. There is no medical on site.

Distances for the five routes are approximately:

  • Green route: 6.6 miles, 497 ft gain
  • Blue route: 11.4 miles, 848 ft gain
  • White route: 11.9 miles, 1282 ft gain
  • Red route: 12.6 miles, 1323 ft gain
  • Orange route: 12.5 miles, 1136 ft gain

One complete journey covers about 55.3 miles and 5,908 ft gain. Runners must complete four full journeys (about 220 miles) to avoid a DNF. The home base aid station provides hot food, cold items, drinks, and a small collapsible cup is issued at registration; participants should bring additional supplies for personal needs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
