The Pilgrimage
The Pilgrimage is a timed, multi-route running event held in Mack, Colorado, in the high desert. The event limits the field to 45 runners and runs for 150 hours. One completed Journey consists of five sequential routes totaling about 55.3 miles and approximately 5,908 ft of elevation gain.
The course is entirely off road with single track, dirt roads, and ATV tracks, and contains no pavement. Average altitude is a bit over 5,000 ft. Routes and sections may be modified up to race day.
- Green route: 6.6 miles, 497 ft gain.
- Blue route: 11.4 miles, 848 ft gain.
- White route: 11.9 miles, 1,282 ft gain.
- Red route: 12.6 miles, 1,323 ft gain.
- Orange route: 12.5 miles, 1,136 ft gain.
The format requires completing multiple Journeys with specific ordering rules that vary by Journey, including predetermined order, random draw, alternating assignments, reverse order, and open choice. Completion of four full Journeys is required to avoid a DNF, which is about 220 miles in 150 hours. Pacers are not allowed.
Runners must bring and know how to use separate GPX files for each route. An RD will be on site 24/7 and runners must check in after each route. The event has a single home base aid station with hot food options, cold items, limited drinks, a collapsible cup provided at registration, Porta Potties, and a portable shower. There is no on site medical team. Crewed and uncrewed divisions are offered; the uncrewed division has separate standings and an overall uncrewed winner receives free lifetime entry.
