Grand Valley Backyard Ultra
Grand Valley Backyard Ultra is a last-person-standing backyard ultra held on a 4.17-mile loop at the 18 Road trail system in Western Colorado. The event is scheduled for October 3, 2026, and follows the Backyard Ultra format used by the organizer in other states.
Each lap is 4.167 miles. All remaining runners start each hour and must finish the loop within that hour to be eligible to continue. The race continues until only one runner completes a final loop. Participants may set personal distance goals rather than race for the final win.
The course is mostly singletrack with some doubletrack and no pavement. Each loop has about 500 feet of elevation gain, with most climbing in the first half. The route is described as runnable and non-technical.
Distances that participants commonly target include:
- 1 lap
- 50K
- 50 miles
- 100K
- 100 miles
Support and logistics are provided at the start/finish area. Water and a named endurance fuel product will be available. The event is cupless; participants should bring a refillable cup. Participants are responsible for their own additional food and supplies. Crew access is allowed with a limit of three people per runner. Personal setups may occupy up to a 10' x 10' space and pop-up canopies must be secured. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
