The Maverick South Downs Trail 2026

The event takes place at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Gravel Hill, Horndean and offers multiple trail distances that run across the Hampshire and Sussex border. Routes follow woodlands, farm trails and ridgeways and include sections on the South Downs Way. The Ultra and Marathon routes pass through Harting Downs and West Dean Woods and include extended sections on chalky trails with short steep climbs.

Distances offered:

  • 50k Ultra - 51 km, +1294 m elevation
  • Marathon - 42 km, +1118 m elevation
  • Half Marathon - 21 km, +479 m elevation
  • Middle - 9 km, +205 m elevation
  • Short - 5 km, +144 m elevation

Outpost and facilities information is route specific. There are no outposts on the Short and Middle routes. The Half Marathon has two outposts at about 5.5 km and 13.5 km. The Marathon has three outposts and the Ultra has four outposts. Toilet facilities are not provided on the Short, Middle or Half routes; toilets are available at selected Marathon and Ultra outposts. The event includes a marked course, timed results, event photography, food and drink, bag drop and a metal finishers medal. Parking at the event car park is free though the car park is a 15 minute walk from the start/finish area.

Mandatory items are required for the 50k Ultra and Marathon and organisers recommend all runners carry at least 1 litre of water, a raincoat, a foil blanket and a mobile phone. Entry fees vary by distance and a multi-entry discount is offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
