About the race

Hambledon Hilly is a trail running event held at Hambledon Vineyard in the South Downs National Park on 19 September. The event offers a range of measured and trail distances with on-site food and visitor facilities at the vineyard.

The race programme includes:

  • 1K: confined to footpaths and trails within the estate; children may be accompanied.
  • 2K: confined to footpaths and trails within the estate; children may be accompanied.
  • 5K: quiet lanes and trails through Hambledon village, finishing on the estate.
  • 10K: quiet lanes and trails through Hambledon village; water station halfway.
  • 20 km Trail: self-sufficient and self-navigated trail; sparse markings and marshals at busy crossings.

Race headquarters are in the large white marquee behind the vineyard restaurant. Parking is available on the estate and marshals will direct vehicles. The main vineyard visitors centre will be open for tours, tasting and dining; bookings should be made well in advance. The vineyard team will be serving food and beverages, including an award winning sparkling wine.

Races are chip timed and all runners receive a memento. Trophies are awarded for first, second and third places in each race (boys and girls for the junior races, men and women for adult races). Entry fees range from £5.00 to £20.00 and a technical event t-shirt is available for £10. Entries may be transferred via the entry platform and transfers must be completed one week before race day. Proceeds will support Brain Tumour Research and Hambledon Primary School. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
