The route is fully signposted and supplied as a waterproof foldable map with GPX; live GPS tracking is provided for competitors and followers. The event is open to runners and walkers and has a 24 hour completion limit with cutoffs applied from the halfway aid station.

Race headquarters is at Low Cunsey Farm, Cunsey, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 0LU. Parking and camping are provided at HQ on grass; motorhomes are not permitted in the car park. Registration takes place in person at Race HQ on the evening before the race and competitors must present photo ID and have their GPS tracker attached by officials.

Competitors are required to carry the full mandatory kit at all times; random kit checks will be carried out and failure to comply may result in a DNF. Trackers must remain attached and may only be removed by officials; unreturned trackers may incur a replacement charge.

The course includes six staffed feed stations with water, drinks, a wide variety of food and energy products and a bag drop for shoes at Troutbeck, the halfway point. Finishers receive a bespoke wooden finisher medal and a finishers meal. Pacers and outside support at aid stations are not permitted; competitors must follow marshal instructions and leave no litter.
