The Hennepin Hundred
The Hennepin Hundred is Illinois' only point to point, all trail ultramarathon held on the first full weekend of October. The race runs along the Hennepin Canal State Trail from Sterling and Rock Falls to Colona, Illinois, following a multi-use trail that crosses historic locks and lift bridges and passes cornfields, farms and small towns in northwest Illinois.
The event offers multiple distance options:
- 100 mile solo
- 50 mile solo
- 50k solo
- 100 mile relay
The 50 mile and 100 mile courses are described as flat and fast and take place entirely on the Hennepin Canal State Trail, Illinois' longest multi-use trail. The race is supported by roughly 150 volunteers, many of whom are experienced ultrarunners, and includes staffed aid stations. It has been a Western States qualifying race since 2019. A $750 prize is offered for breaking the 100 mile course record in the male and female categories.
