The Hennepin Hundred
The Hennepin Hundred takes place October 2–3, 2027 in Sterling, Illinois, and is organized by Ornery Mule Racing. The event is a point-to-point, all-trail ultramarathon that follows the Hennepin Canal State Trail from Sterling to Colona, Illinois, along a largely flat route that uses Illinois’ longest multi-use trail.
Race options include:
- 100 mile individual
- 50 mile individual
- 50K
- 100 mile team relay
Aid stations are located approximately every 3–7 miles and are described as fully stocked and staffed by volunteers. The 100 mile event has a 30 hour race cutoff used for Western States qualification. Finisher items and race swag vary by distance; 100 mile finishers receive a buckle and a finisher shirt, and other finishers receive shirts, medals, race bags, and small gifts.
Registration opens December 1, 2026, and early bird pricing is available until January 1. Early bird fees listed include $315 for the 100 mile, $155 for the 50 mile, $110 for the 50K, and $425 for a five person relay. Volunteer incentives include credits toward future Ornery Mule Racing events for aid station captains and volunteers, plus event swag and an invitation to a volunteer party.
The event’s refund and rollover rules allow a no cost rollover if notified by 70 days before the event and a 50% race credit option until 25 days before; no refunds are offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
