SkunkApe is a timed trail event held on March 27, 2027 at Lowell Park, 2114 Lowell Park Road, Dixon, IL 61021. The event offers multiple timed distance options and a relay division, each with a set time limit and associated entry fee.
Distances and time limits:
- 33.75 miles in 8 hours 6 minutes
- 22.5 miles in 5 hours 24 minutes
- 13.5 miles in 3 hours 14 minutes
- 806 Relay team entry available
The course is an alternating-direction 2.25 mile loop; runners complete laps forward on one circuit and reverse on the next. The loop is primarily single track through woods with a few paved road crossings and about 166 feet of elevation gain per lap. Lap counting is manual; race staff track laps with pen and paper at the start/finish and participants must confirm each lap is checked before continuing.
The aid station is located at the start/finish and will provide water, coffee, and basic snacks. In a prior year, cooked items and a variety of foods were available; participants may bring food to share. Finishers who complete their distance within the time limit receive specified apparel or caps. Awards are given to male and female 1st through 3rd for each distance, and a 1st overall award for relay teams. Entry fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
