SkunkApe 806/524/314 Trail Race
The SkunkApe Trail Race takes place at Lowell Park in Dixon, Illinois. This event features a unique format where participants aim to complete specific distances within designated time limits. The course consists of a 2.25-mile loop on single-track trails through the woods, with a few paved road crossings. Runners alternate directions every lap, moving forward for the first lap and in reverse for the second. Each loop includes 166 feet of elevation gain.
Laps are tracked manually by volunteers using pen and paper at the start and finish area. Participants are responsible for ensuring their laps are recorded before beginning the next circuit.
Available distance and time categories include:
- 33.75 miles with a time limit of 8 hours and 6 minutes
- 22.5 miles with a time limit of 5 hours and 24 minutes
- 13.5 miles with a time limit of 3 hours and 14 minutes
- 806 Relay for teams
An aid station located at the start and finish provides water, coffee, and various snacks. Previous iterations of the event have featured hot food items such as grilled cheese, burgers, and breakfast foods. Gift items, including apparel such as hats and sweatshirts, are provided specifically to those who complete their chosen distance within the official time limits.
