Dover Backyard Ultra - Kent Backyard Ultra Series II
The Dover event is an official Backyard Ultra held on the Kent coast at Great Farthingloe Farm, Dover, Kent CT15 7AA. It takes place in winter on exposed ground above Farthingloe Valley and uses muddy trails, exposed farmland, and private roads. The route starts and finishes at the Great Barn and runs along the top of the valley with open views across the English Channel.
The event follows the Backyard Ultra format. Each lap, or "yard", is 4.167 miles (4 miles 880 feet / 6.7056 km) and must be completed within 60 minutes. Runners repeat the yard every hour until a single last person standing completes a final solo yard. A parallel 7 Hour Challenge uses the same yard distance and is limited to 15 places.
Base Camp is indoors in the Great Barn. Facilities include indoor toilets, boiling water, microwave access, on site medical cover, and clearly marked reflective course signage. The event is self supported and cupless; runners are responsible for their own food, equipment, pacing, and safety. Recommended kit includes waterproofs, warm layers, trail shoes, a cup or bottle, and a headtorch for overnight running. Campervans are permitted in designated areas but outside camping and temporary external shelters are not allowed.
Volunteers aged 18 and over may join the Hellfire Crew in multiple shift roles and earn transferable race credit. Course maps and GPX files are provided before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
