The Drop - Shrewsbury

The Drop is an event in Shrewsbury that tasks participants with returning to the event centre from an undisclosed drop off location. The event is scheduled for 17 July 2027 and is based at Up & Running, 17 Mardol, Shrewsbury SY1 1PU.

Registration requires participants to hand over electronic devices and navigational aids in exchange for a race number and a sealed emergency bag. Participants board a bus, wear blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives if needed, and are driven to the drop off location. From that point the distance back to the event centre is measured as the crow flies and participants must navigate without maps, GPS, compasses, or outside help.

Rules include sealing any recording devices in the emergency bag, using only organiser provided maps if any, not taking shortcuts, and maintaining the emergency bag seal or facing disqualification. Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional paid feature with trackers accurate to about five metres but subject to signal issues; trackers must be returned at the end of the event or a replacement fee will apply.

Participants are advised to check the event FAQ in advance for details such as start times, cut off times, and required kit. Local access information notes parking in the town centre, a railway station about a 10 minute walk, and a bus station about 5 minutes away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
