The Hill

The Hill is a winter endurance event on The Wrekin in Shropshire. Runners repeatedly ascend and descend The Wrekin, which reaches 1,335 ft, to complete 160 miles with a total of 47,000 feet of ascent inside a 48 hour time limit.

The event is scheduled from Friday 4 December to Sunday 6 December 2026. The entry fee for the main challenge is £235. Entries are limited; there are no refunds, transfers, or deferrals. Entrants must have extreme ultra-running experience and a prior 100 mile finish as a minimum requirement; entries may be rejected at the race director's discretion.

A separate Everest style challenge is offered for a small number of runners. That standalone option requires 34 summit repetitions in a 36 hour time limit, covers just over 100 miles, and carries a separate fee of £200 with limited places. The Everest option is not interchangeable with The Hill.

Distances:

  • 160 miles, main Hill challenge
  • ~102 miles, Everest style challenge

Included items for participants who finish or take part include professional timing, an indoor checkpoint with water and self-service hot water and snacks, a bespoke finishers medal and t-shirt for finishers, limited free parking, and toilet facilities.

Key rules and safety notes include no outside assistance or pacers, no sticks or headphones, no supporters at the checkpoint, a maximum single stop of 30 minutes, compulsory all-weather kit including a sleeping bag and front and rear lighting, one medium bag per runner, a requirement to carry a phone for emergencies, a DNF bell protocol, and a requirement to remove all brought items and waste.
