The District Back Yard Ultra 2026

The District Back Yard Ultra is scheduled for 3rd October 2026 at Into the Woods, Cumbria. The route runs with wide open views toward Blencathra and the Lake District fells to the west and the Pennine Hills to the east. Terrain is described as undulating and highly runnable, offering Lake District scenery without very large elevation gain.

The event uses the Backyard Ultra format: one loop, one hour, every hour. Each loop is set to the standard Backyard Ultra distance of 4.167 miles / 6.706 km per yard. Competitors must complete the loop before the top of the hour to continue. Failure to finish a loop in time ends a competitor's race. The last person to complete a solo yard is the winner.

Organised by Heart & Soul Racing Limited, the event aims for a country themed atmosphere with music and a yard area for runners, crews and spectators. Camping is included for athletes and crew as part of entry; additional tents, Friday night camping and camper van parking require specific ticket options. The event is self supported; organisers will provide an aid station with water and basic supplies but competitors should plan for power, lighting, shelter and full race kit. Each competitor receives a 3m x 3m pitch to set up their base. Entry concessions include free places for recent BYU winners and discounts for athletes with major Backyard Ultra results. Numbers are restricted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
