The Bog Run 2026
The Bog Run returns to Castlewellan Forest Park in Co. Down for its tenth and final edition. This event is a 5km mud run designed for fun and fundraising, taking participants through a course that transitions on and off forest paths. The route features various natural and man-made obstacles, including bushes to crawl through, fallen trees to climb over, and mud pits.
Participants can choose between two main categories:
- Junior Bog Run: For participants aged 8-14 years. Each group of up to two children must be accompanied by an adult. The course follows the main route but excludes the lake section and certain mud pits.
- Senior Bog Run: For participants aged 12 and over. Those between 12-17 years old must participate alongside an adult. This version of the course includes a waist-deep section in a lake.
The event operates with waves of 60 people starting every 10 minutes. Facilities available on-site include a bag drop area, changing tents, and shower facilities. Registered participants receive a t-shirt, a medal, and post-race snacks. Parking is available at the venue for a fee. The primary purpose of the event is to raise funds for Cancer Fund for Children to support families impacted by cancer across the island of Ireland.
