About the race
The Castlewellan Christmas Cracker is a team event held in and around Castlewellan on 28 December 2026. The course is approximately 8.5 miles and runs on roads, fields and forest tracks. Registration takes place at Castlewellan GAC, 21 Circular Road, Castlewellan, Co Down, BT31 9ED.
Each entry is a team of two. Both team members must cross the finish line together. Race numbers are issued at registration and are labelled runner A and B; the number for runner A includes a barcode that will be scanned to record results. Entry is limited to 750 teams and no entries are taken on race day. The pair entry fee is £40.00.
All finishers receive a medal. Cash prizes are awarded to the first three teams in Men, Women and Mixed categories, with further cash prizes for first teams outside the top three in combined-age categories (80-99, 100-119, 120-139, 140+). Spot prizes are given for best fancy dress. Soup and a roll are provided for participants at the Community Centre opposite the GAA Club where numbers are collected. There is no bottled water at the finish so participants should make their own arrangements.
Participants must be 16 or older. No dogs, headphones or prams are allowed. Changing facilities and showers are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
