Granite Peaks Ultras : 16 to 17 April 2027, Newcastle, County Down
Granite Peaks Ultras stages three mountain races that start and finish at Shimna Integrated College in Newcastle, County Down. All three races are UTMB Index events and take place on open mountain terrain in the Mourne Mountains, with granite tors, moorland and the Mourne Wall as key landscape features.
Distances
- 25 km, 1,800 m ascent, 7 hour cut-off, minimum age 18
- 52 km, 4,000 m ascent, 14 hour cut-off, minimum age 20
- 101 km, 6,500 m ascent, 28 hour cut-off, minimum age 20
The 100K is a new single large loop on open mountain ground with no forest loops. The 50K uses a revamped full mountain course for 2027. The 25K is a new entry distance route that remains on open mountain terrain.
Logistics and rules note that aid station numbers differ by race, and some races allow drop bags and crew access at specified points. Every runner must be experienced and self-sufficient on mountain terrain and able to navigate using the provided GPX file. The event is cup free; runners must carry a collapsible cup and dropping litter can lead to disqualification. The organisers donate £5 from every entry to Mourne Heritage Trust for upland path repair. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
