About the race
The Alley Loop is a Nordic ski marathon held in Crested Butte on January 30, 2027. The event combines an urban start through snowy streets, alleyways, and narrow bridges in downtown Crested Butte with longer laps on the Crested Butte Nordic trail network that offer groomed tracks and mountain views.
Multiple race distances are offered:
- 42 km marathon
- 21 km
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1.5 km and 3 km youth races
The race weekend also includes the Pinnacle Orthopedics Community Race Series Son of an Alley Loop Skiathlon, which features 10 km and 6 km skiathlon distances and a free 2 km kids race; for each skiathlon distance competitors complete one classic lap and one skate lap.
Race services listed by the organizer include limited wax service provided by Rex Wax with a non-fluoro race wax option at $65, and on-site rental equipment reservations with pre-race pickup and day-of pickup options. Awards and prize purses are published for top finishers across distances, including monetary prizes for podiums in the 42 km and 21 km events, age class awards, commemorative pint glasses for winners, and a Sub 3-Hour Marathon Achievement Bell for 42 km finishers under three hours.
