Crested Butte Ultra
The Crested Butte Ultra takes place in Crested Butte, Colorado on September 26, 2026. The event offers trail distances of 35K, 55K, and 50 Mile, and uses single-track trails through mountain meadows and ridges in the Gunnison National Forest. Lower elevations feature wildflowers and the fall foliage in the area is noted as a visual feature. The event is authorized under a special use permit with the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests.
Distances and elevation highlights:
- 35K: Lowest 8822' Highest 9988' Elevation gain 2280'
- 55K: Lowest 8822' Highest 11290' Elevation gain 4567'
- 50 Mile: Lowest 8822' Highest 11291' Elevation gain 8301'
Course materials include a race guide, course maps, interactive maps, and downloadable GPX files for each distance. The start and finish are at Crested Butte Community School, 818 Red Lady Avenue, Crested Butte, CO (GPS coordinates available). The finish line is at the same location as the start.
Aid stations are cupless: runners must bring a reusable cup; water dispensers are provided at the start/finish and at every aid station to refill bottles, bladders, and cups. Mad Moose Hydrapak cups are available for purchase during online registration. Race day packet pickup is at Crested Butte Community School; there will not be a pre-race packet pickup due to a homecoming parade and local road closures. Packet pickup requires photo ID; entries are non-transferable and bib pickup rules apply. Timing chips must be attached to the shoe for official timekeeping. Results are posted on Ultrasignup. Runners receive a custom race shirt, a custom BOCO hat, and a finisher's medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
