Tale of Two Trails
Tale of Two Trails is a trail running event organized by Team Sparkle at Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, KS. The event offers multiple distances and uses the park's two separate trail systems.
Distances
- 50 Mile
- 40 Mile
- 20 Mile
- 10 Mile
The course combines the park's North and South shore trail systems, connected by a short paved section. Each full loop measures about 20 miles. The 20 mile race is one full loop of both trail systems; the 40 mile race is two full loops; the 50 mile race is two full loops plus an additional North Shore loop. The 10 mile race runs only on the North Shore trails.
Terrain includes smooth runnable sections and technical stretches with roots, rocks, rolling hills, and tree canopy with occasional exposed areas. Stated distances are approximate and GPS mileage may vary.
If trails are closed, a backup 10 mile route of cross country, gravel, power line and paved sections will be used; start/finish and parking remain the same. Aid stations are cupless; runners must carry a reusable cup. Aid station offerings include Tailwind, sodas, fruit, sandwiches, salty snacks, sweets, and soup later in the day. Drop bags are permitted for 40 and 50 mile runners and are handled from designated locations. Pacers are allowed for 50 mile runners under specified conditions; crew access is limited to designated areas. Race rules govern littering, poles, alcohol, dogs, course following, and personal music use. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
