Sydney's Backyard Ultra : event overview

Sydney's Backyard Ultra is an open-ended endurance race held on 19 September 2026 at St Ives Showground. The format requires competitors to complete a measured loop of 6.71 km every hour, on the hour, with the event continuing until only one runner completes a loop others cannot. The course is marked and visible to supporters; each loop includes about 34 metres of elevation gain.

Entry information notes a field capacity of 750 runners and listed entry prices of General $275.75 and Final $299.75. Race entry includes an event shirt, race photos, and a finisher medal; the event also provides a live YouTube stream.

Mandatory items required for all participants are an allocated race number, a head torch with sufficient batteries, a charged mobile phone, and a reusable cup or flask because the event is cupless. Recommended items for personal comfort and recovery include shelter and a chair (gazebo no larger than 3 m x 3 m and secured), spare clothing and shoes, battery lighting for campsite areas, nutrition and hydration supplies, and a personal first aid kit.

Support crew may assist only after a runner completes a loop and must follow race rules and marshal instructions. Pacers are not permitted. Milestones for cumulative distance are noted, for example 15 yards = 100.5 km and 24 yards = 100 miles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
