About the race
The 2nd Surrey Ultra Mountain Marathon is a two-day, two-person-team self-supported navigation and endurance challenge based at Newlands Corner, Drove Rd, Albury, Guildford GU4 8SE. Teams of two navigate in the Surrey Hills to collect points from virtual controls. Each team must carry everything needed for the weekend, including camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleep mat), cooking gear and fuel, and all food for the weekend. Entry is limited to 20 teams and solo entrants are not permitted for safety reasons. Timing for the competition is split across two days: teams have seven hours on the first day and six hours on the second day to gain as many points as possible.
All competitors start at the same time on each day. The entry fee is £60 per team, which includes camping, maps, a t-shirt and the first beer in camp; the fee increases to £70 per team on 1 February 2027. Participation is at each competitor’s own risk; there is no event insurance, medical coverage or repatriation provided. Camping is basic but includes hot and cold water, showers and toilets. The campsite is on a working farm where geese, ducks and other groups may be present and it may be noisy overnight.
