Event Overview
The Surrey Ultra Mountain Marathon is a two-day navigation and endurance event held in the Surrey Hills. Starting and finishing at Newlands Corner, this event is designed for teams of two people. Participation is restricted to pairs only for safety reasons, and the event is limited to a maximum of 20 teams.
Format and Navigation
This is a self-supported challenge where participants must carry all necessary equipment for the duration of the weekend. This includes camping gear such as tents, sleeping bags, and mats, as well as cooking equipment, fuel, and all food. The format is based on a point-accumulation system:
- Day 1: 7 hours to visit virtual controls.
- Day 2: 6 hours to visit virtual controls.
Logistics and Facilities
The overnight camp is located at a working farm featuring basic amenities including hot and cold water, showers, and toilets. Due to the nature of the location, participants may encounter noise from farm animals such as geese and ducks. Entry fees include maps, camping access, a t-shirt, and one beverage at the camp. Participants are responsible for their own safety and transport, as the event does not provide insurance, medical coverage, or repatriation services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
