Sun Mountain 50M 50K 25K in Winthrop, WA
The Sun Mountain trail races take place May 1 and 2, 2027, on the sunny east side of the North Cascades near Winthrop, Washington. Courses run on the edge of the Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness above the Methow and Twisp river valleys and feature meadows of wildflowers, forest sections, ridgetop views, and distant snow capped peaks.
Race format and key facts
- 50M: about 8200 ft elevation gain, 6 aid stations, cutoff 15+ hours.
- 50K: about 5000 ft elevation gain, 4 aid stations, cutoff 13+ hours.
- 25K: about 2300 ft elevation gain, 2 aid stations, cutoff 6+ hours.
Routes are point to point with a lakeside finish at Big Twin Lake Resort Campground. All participants are shuttled from Big Twin to the starts. Surfaces include single track, wider ranch roads, and short paved sections; the 50M and 50K include about 4.8 miles of pavement and the 25K about 2 miles. Course markings are frequent with ribbons and arrow signs. Drop bags are allowed at designated aid stations and runners should carry a map or GPS as a backup.
Crew vehicle access is not permitted on the course except at the start and finish. Dogs are not allowed on the race course but leashed dogs are allowed at the finish. Post race food and drinks are provided lakeside at Big Twin; runners and volunteers receive complimentary post race refreshments while crew pay a nominal fee.
