Cutthroat Classic

The Cutthroat Classic is a high alpine singletrack trail run through the North Cascades that follows the Pacific Crest Trail over Cutthroat Pass. The total course length is 10.5 miles. The route begins at Rainy Pass (elevation 4,870 ft), climbs about five miles to Cutthroat Pass (6,835 ft), descends roughly four miles to Cutthroat Lake with many switchbacks on five to ten percent grades, then continues gradually downhill for two miles to the Cutthroat Creek Trailhead (elevation 4,480 ft).

Runners self-seed into six waves with expected finish time ranges: Wave 1 under 1:40; Wave 2 1:40–1:59 with no walking; Waves 3 and 4 2:00–2:30; Wave 5 2:30–3:00; Wave 6 3:00–3:30 for slower runners who plan to speed hike. There is one aid station at mile seven offering energy chews, water, and sport drink; supplies are packed in by horseback and runners are encouraged to carry their own fuel.

The event is cupless: participants must carry a bottle, collapsible cup, or hydration pack for refills. Bags left at the start are transported to the finish. Parking is limited and a Northwest Forest Pass is required; a one-day pass is available at the Rainy Pass and Cutthroat trailheads via Recreation.gov.

Methow Trails is a non-profit and event income supports year-round trail operations. The 2026 event and waitlists are sold out. Registration policies include no refunds or transfers after August 1, with a $50 refund fee and $20 transfer fee prior to that date. Lunches are provided by Willow Brook Farm and participants over 21 receive one free pint from Old Schoolhouse Brewery. Age divisions run from 17 and under through 70 plus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
