About the race
Ski to the Sun is an annual community cross country ski race organized by Methow Trails and the Methow Valley Nordic Ski Education Foundation. The main event is a marathon course that travels from Mazama to Sun Mountain Lodge and includes classic and freestyle divisions. The course profile lists an elevation start of 2,210 ft (673 m), an elevation end of 2,680 ft (817 m), total elevation gain of +1,932 ft (589 m), and total elevation loss of -1,040 ft (317 m). - Marathon course: 40 km
- Para Nordic course: 10.5 km sit ski or standing
- Relay legs: Leg 1 0.7 km, Leg 2 4.8 km, Leg 3 7.2 km, Leg 4 11.7 km, Leg 5 11.3 km, Leg 6 5.2 km
The event includes marathon, half marathon, relay, and Para Nordic categories, field limits for some divisions, and awards. Relay teams may skate or use classic technique; relay awards are based on overall time only. Registration opens October 1, 2026, and there are stated entry fees, registration deadlines, transfer deadlines, and a no refunds policy after January 15, 2027. Entry fee items include a race bib, a custom event hat, post race lunch, one beer for 21 plus, raffle prizes, and awards. Shuttles run continuously between Liberty Bell High School, Mazama, Chickadee, and Sun Mountain Lodge with no pre registration required. Dogs are not allowed at any part of the event. The race is part of the Pacific Northwest Loppet Series and proceeds support Methow Trails operations and Nordic programming. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
