Stretton Skyline Fell Race
The Stretton Skyline is an FRA Category B long fell race over 19 mile (30.5 km) with approximately 4,450 feet (1,357 m) of ascent. The race is open to men and women aged over 18. Entry fees are listed as pre entry £10 and entries on the day £15.
Navigation skills are recommended. The route is not marked except for short sections in Little Stretton, up Ragleth, through Church Stretton and between Comley Farm and Gogbatch. Competitors must follow the road and path up Cardingmill Valley rather than the Burway Road. The whole course is on OS map 217 The Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge.
The route crosses the A49 at Little Stretton and Gorsty Bank; marshals will not stop traffic so runners should take care and give way to vehicles. Runners are asked to obey the country code, close farm gates and avoid dropping litter. Dogs are not allowed.
Registration, changing, refreshments and presentations take place at Church Stretton Sports Pavilion, Lutwyche Road, Church Stretton (grid SO 455 938). The race start is in Cardingmill Valley (grid SO 448 943) about a 10 minute walk from registration and the finish is beside the cricket field near the pavilion. Water provision is listed at Little Stretton, Church Stretton, Comley Farm and at the finish.
Under FRA rules runners must carry whole body waterproofs, hat, gloves, map in a waterproof cover, compass, whistle and food. Checkpoints are manned and must be visited in order using a race dibber issued at registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
