Stanza Stones Winter Edition
The event is a timed, overnight challenge covering a linear route of 51 miles with over 6600 ft of ascent. The route starts in Marsden, West Yorkshire, and finishes in Ilkley at Curly Hill Scout Camp. Participants follow a course that crosses the moorland of the South Pennines and passes through the historic village of Haworth.
Runners visit six Stanza Stones along the route; each stone bears a poem by Simon Armitage and relates to the theme of water. The six stone names are Snow, Rain, Mist, Dew, Puddle and Beck.
Services provided on the route include live tracking supplied by Open Tracking, six checkpoints (three indoors) offering food and drink, and a professional medical and rescue support team. Finishers receive a meal and a memento, and changing rooms with hot showers are available at the finish. There is an option to register at either the start or the finish. Additional paid options include coach transport from Ilkley to the start, bunk room beds at the finish venue, and a quality cotton event t-shirt.
