Squatchy Hooky: Lake to Summit

Squatchy Hooky is a two-distance trail event held at Rockland Lake State Park in Nyack, New York, with start and finish at Parking Field #4. The event offers:

  • 5K fully accessible paved loop around Rockland Lake
  • 10K rugged mountain trail on the Long Path to Hook Mountain Summit

The 5K is a smooth, paved loop with wide paths, gentle terrain, accessible restrooms along the route, and a dedicated Wheelchair Division. The 10K climbs approximately 1,300 ft on technical, rocky trails that include steep climbs, ledges, scrambling, and sections with dangerous dropoffs near the summit. The 10K has one on-course aid station at mile 4.25 called 9W with water, snacks, and Skratch; that aid station is not crew-accessible.

The event is capped at 200 participants across both distances and uses bright colored ribbons to mark courses: yellow and black for the 5K, pink for the 10K. There is a 3.5 hour cutoff for all events; 10K runners should plan pace and logistics accordingly. Public-transport options to the park are available by bus from Port Authority or by Metro-North with a local connection.

Accessibility and support provisions include a wheelchair division for the 5K, pacers or guides for athletes over 60 and athletes with disabilities, and a Trailside Support program for adaptive athletes. Wildlife such as black bears and snakes may be present on the trails. The organizer does not offer refunds; deferral policies exist for specific circumstances including pregnancy, adoption, community care concerns, and some injury cases. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
