About the race
Squatchy Hooky: Lake to Summit is a trail event on June 5, 2027, at Rockland Lake State Park near Nyack, New York. The event offers two distinct courses and is capped at 200 participants across both distances.
- 5K: paved loop around Rockland Lake, mostly flat and fully accessible, includes a 5K Wheelchair Division.
- 10K: rugged mountain trail along the Long Path to Hook Mountain Summit with rock scrambling, steep climbs and descents, cliffs, and about 1,300 ft of elevation gain.
The 10K includes dangerous dropoffs beyond the trail near the summit. The 10K has one on-course aid station at mile 4.25 called 9W with water, snacks, and Skratch; that aid station is not crew-accessible. The event enforces a 3.5 hour course cutoff; 10K participants must maintain roughly a 33 minute 45 second per mile pace to meet the cutoff.
Accessibility and adaptive support are provided: a wheelchair division on the 5K, a Trailside Support program for adaptive athletes, and free guides/pacers for adaptive athletes and participants over 60 when pre-registered. The 10K is not recommended for wheeled mobility devices; trekking poles are recommended for the steep, technical descent.
