Big Bear Squatch North : Bear Mountain, New York
Big Bear Squatch North is a mountain trail event on April 3, 2027 at Harriman State Park in Bear Mountain, New York, presented by Sassquad and the New York New Jersey Trail Conference. The event offers multiple distances on a lollipop course that features rugged, technical singletrack with steep climbs, rock scrambles, cliffs, and scenic viewpoints.
Distances include:
- 13.1 miles half marathon, roughly 2,600 ft elevation gain
- 10K trail race, roughly 1,400 ft elevation gain
- 10K Ruck open-weight rucking division
The event is capped at 400 participants and has sold out in recent years. There is a six hour course cutoff for all events; half marathoners must maintain about a 27 minute 30 second per mile pace and 10K participants must maintain about a 58 minute per mile pace to meet cutoff requirements. The course is marked with colored ribbons and directional arrows; the 10K is marked in pink and the first portion of the half marathon is marked in blue.
All participants must carry required gear including a charged cell phone, hydration (recommended at least 1.5 L), at least 200 extra calories, a whistle, and a GPX course file on a device. On-course aid includes staffed stations and a water only station; some aid stations are not crew accessible. Portable toilets are available at the start finish area and park rangers provide on-site support.
