Spring Awakening Backyard Ultra and Relay
Spring Awakening Backyard Ultra and Relay takes place in Vashon, Washington, with the start/finish area, aid station, portajohns and team tent space in the field behind O-Space at 18870 103rd Ave SW. The event uses a 4.167 mile island-center forest loop that is about 90% trail, 5% road and 5% gravel, with roughly 150 ft of elevation gain per loop.
The format runs in hourly laps for up to 24 hours. Each runner has exactly one hour to complete the loop and must be back at the starting line before the next hour to continue; failure to do so results in elimination. Individuals may choose from timed options and relay teams may include up to eight members; the 6 hour section may be completed at any time during the full event and 12 hour entrants choose either daylight or nighttime 12 hour blocks.
Crew support is allowed at the field; pacers are not permitted on course. Power outlets are not available on site. A fully stocked aid station will be at the start/finish area, with water, electrolyte powders, soda, sweets, salty snacks, fruit, basic medical supplies (no NSAIDs provided), and cooked meals served during the event. Porta potties will be on site from the Friday before through the event. Registration includes a T-shirt, custom bib, aid station access, food for runners and crew, commemorative items, emergency support, and a custom belt buckle for individual 24 hour finishers.
