About the race

The South Downs 50k is a point to point trail race of 50 km from Falmer to Eastbourne, primarily following the South Downs Way and passing through the South Downs National Park. The route finishes above the white cliffs of Beachy Head and covers over 3,500 feet of elevation gain and descent.

Terrain is mainly grass trails with some farm tracks and forest paths. The course is described as largely runnable and not technical. The route is fully marked and supported by four aid stations. Live GPS tracking and chip timing are provided, and the event awards 2 ITRA points and features UTMB indexing.

The event lists a minimum age of 20 years and does not require a qualification to enter. Entries are sold on a first come, first served basis and include a mandatory GPS tracker. The stated entry fee is £78. Included race services comprise a bespoke finisher medal, well stocked aid stations, first aid and medical cover, event insurance, downloadable photos, winner trophies and a free shuttle bus from the finish to local hotels and Eastbourne train station.
