Stanbury Splash
Stanbury Splash is a fell race based at Penistone Hill Country Park that circuits the upper reaches of Ponden Clough and Stanbury Moor. The course is 6.7 mile with approximately 1200 ft of ascent and is classified BM. The route follows the outward line introduced in recent years while returning by the older route and includes multiple stream crossings, muddy climbs and moorland sections.
The event starts from the quarry bottom on Penistone and finishes on the cricket pitch by the Old Cricket Hut. There is a cut-off of 45 minutes at the start of the Ponden Kirk loop; runners arriving after this will be directed to miss the loop and follow the return path. Organisers require compliance with FRA safety kit recommendations; runners should bring waterproof top and leggings, hat and gloves and be prepared to wear or carry them.
Entry details and amenities are provided on the day. Entry for seniors is £5 on the day; teams of three enter free. All entrants receive a mini Soreen Malt Bar; senior competitors receive a Soreen Malt Loaf Bar and full loaves are among the prizes. Prize giving takes place outside at the cricket hut after the race; winners must be present to collect prizes. Prize categories include first 10 men and ladies, top three vets in each age band 40, 50, 60 and 70, top three U21 and spot prizes, with one prize per person. Prize lists may be scaled back if fewer than 200 senior runners take part. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
