Moors Traverse

The Moors Traverse is an 80 km ultra that follows Wainwright’s coast to coast route from Ingleby Cross to Robin Hood’s Bay. The route runs along the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park and finishes on the shoreline at Robin Hood’s Bay. The event emphasizes an adventurous ethos and a culture of self-sufficiency.

The course distance varies between editions; the published estimate for height gain is 1,600 m. The route is not fully marked each year but follows a well established national hiking trail. Organisers provide a waterproof race map, a digital map and a GPX file. The final route is provisional and may change.

Support is provided at staffed aid stations with food, hot and cold drinks and medical cover. Key support points include Lordstones (around 13 km), the Lion Inn (around 32 km), Glaisdale (around 46 km), May Beck (around 62 km), Hawsker (around 70 km) and the shoreline finish at Robin Hood’s Bay. The course is defined by aid stations and guidance times, and there are cut offs at support points; finishing after the course closure is classified as non-competitive.

Mandatory kit is required and checked at registration; a downloadable checklist is provided. A finishers drop bag is transported from start to finish. The race awards ITRA points and contributes to the UTMB index. Registration for the 2027 edition is open and places are limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
