Tough Mutter
Tough Mutter is an obstacle-course event for runners and their dogs held on Aske estate near Richmond in North Yorkshire, next to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The routes use off-road terrain including marsh, bog, woodland, hilly ground, tracks and fields.
Courses are offered in multiple formats:
- 10 km Adult plus 1 dog, 18 years or older
- 5 km Adult plus 1 dog, 18 years or older
- 10 km child no dog, 16 to 18 years old
- 5 km child no dog, 12 to 18 years old
- 10 km Adult no dog, 18 years or older
- 5 km Adult no dog, 18 years or older
The 5 km course includes a minimum of 38 obstacles and the 10 km course a minimum of 53 obstacles. Obstacles are marked to indicate those that can be done with a dog, those only for a human, and those where the owner decides if the dog can attempt them. Each obstacle has a tie-up point to secure a dog while the owner completes the obstacle.
Near the finish there is an 850 metre assault section through deep mud and water containing more than 24 obstacles. Entry fees vary by category, from £27 up to £40, with an extra dog fee of £15. Entries recorded so far total 82 participants. The event minimum age is 12 years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
