Tough Mutter

Tough Mutter is an obstacle-course race for dog owners and for children without dogs, held on Aske estate near Richmond in North Yorkshire, adjacent to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Routes run off road through marsh, bog, woodland, rough hilly ground, tracks and fields. Obstacles are spread around the course and many obstacles have multiple components to climb, jump, wade, swing and crawl under or over.

The event offers multiple race options with differing obstacle counts:

  • 10 km, minimum 53 obstacles
  • 5 km, minimum 38 obstacles
  • 10 km child, no dog
  • 5 km child, no dog

Each obstacle is marked to show whether it can be attempted with a dog, is for the participant only, or can be attempted at the participant’s discretion. All obstacles provide a tie-up point to secure a dog while the participant completes the obstacle. The finish area includes an 850 metre assault section through deep mud and water with 24 or more obstacles to negotiate.

Age rules vary by category: adult-with-dog categories require adult participants, and separate child categories exist with specific age ranges and accompaniment requirements. Entry fees differ by category and additional dogs can be added for a fee. The event has published terms, cancellation and refund policies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
