Shorebird Coast Run : Pūkorokoro/Miranda coastal races
The Shorebird Coast Run is a community running event held on 17 October 2026 at 562 East Coast Road, Kaiaua, New Zealand. The event supports the Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre and takes place along the coastal Hauraki Rail Trail through important shorebird habitat.
Distances offered:
- 21K Half Marathon, two-lap out-and-back
- 10K Out-and-back along the Hauraki Rail Trail
- 5K Out-and-back, walkers and runners start together
- Kuaka Kids Race 1.5 km loop for ages 4 to 12
Course and services: the routes start at Rays Rest Reserve and run on mostly trail surfaces with hard-packed sand, grass and smooth metal sections. The terrain is flat with no road sections. The 21K is a two-lap course that passes the Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre, the Taramaire Wildlife Reserve pond, the Access Bay Train Shelter and the Robert Findlay bird hides beside expansive mudflats that host migratory birds. Aid stations provide water and electrolytes; the event operates a cup-free policy and recommends reusable cups. Shorebird themed cups are available to purchase and can be picked up at registration.
Additional details: there are separate categories for walkers and runners, entry for 5K/10K/21K includes a handmade custom medal, dogs are not permitted in the event area, and food trucks and coffee are available on site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
