Scare Bear Run 2027 - North
Scare Bear Run 2027 - North is a trail running event held at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on the River Wear. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. It runs as a 7 hour Time Challenge, giving participants control over the distance they cover; the minimum distance to be an official finisher is 3 km.
The course follows a signed trail beside the river with views of the Cathedral. A full lap is listed as 7 km (about 4.37 miles) but may be adjusted to a shorter loop depending on conditions. Within the lap there are 3k and 5k turn points to allow compliance with UK Athletics age rules.

- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
- Time Challenge option
Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal; distance pins are awarded for half-marathon distance and above and are attached to the medal ribbon. All finishers receive a goody bag, with a vegan option available. Aid and drinks tables are provided at the start/finish of each lap with vegan snack options.
Facilities at race HQ include toilets and changing. A bag drop is provided but is unstaffed and left at the participant's risk. Pay and display parking is available nearby; parking in the rowing club car park is not permitted. Final race instructions are sent by email before the event and race numbers are collected at registration on the day.
