The Safari Sprint - North
The Safari Sprint is a 7 hour Time Challenge held at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham on Sunday 17 January 2027. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules. Walkers are welcome.
The course runs along a stretch of the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. It is classified as a trail run and is fully signed so no navigational experience is required. The minimum official distance is 3 km; a full lap is listed as 7 km (4.37 miles) but may change to a 3.28 mile loop depending on conditions. The lap contains 3 km and 5 km turn points for younger runners.
Finisher awards are given for completing at least 3 km. Distance pins are issued for half-marathon distance and above, with one pin attached to the medal ribbon for each qualifying distance.
All finishers receive a goody bag with a vegan option available if requested at entry. An aid table and drinks table are provided at the start/finish of each lap with drinks and a selection of snacks, including vegan options.
Toilets and changing are available at race HQ. A bag drop is provided but is unstaffed and items are left at each participant’s risk. Pay and display parking is in the city centre and nearby streets; parking at the rowing club car park is not permitted. Final race instructions are emailed the week before the event and race numbers are collected on the day at registration. Headphones are allowed and participants should be considerate of other public footpath users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
