Sandstone Sixer
The Sandstone Sixer is a six hour timed trail event at Sandstone Ranch Open Space in Larkspur, Colorado. Participants run repeated laps of an approximately 8 mile loop and cover as much distance as they can within the time limit.
Each loop has about 765 feet of gain and sits between 6,533 and 6,843 feet in elevation. The course is described as rolling and runnable with no technical sections, featuring good dirt trails rather than steep technical climbs.
The loop passes back through the start and finish at mile 3.45, so aid is available roughly every four miles at the start/finish location. The event is cupless, so participants should bring their own drinking vessel. Loops must be completed to count toward distance.
The event provides a custom hat and raffle tickets to registrants. Performance recognitions are given by completed loops:
- 4 loops, 32 miles: 50K finisher medal
- 5 loops, 40 miles: 40 mile medal and 10 extra raffle tickets
- 6 loops, 48 miles: additional reward for completion
Sandstone Ranch is 2,038 acres of Douglas County open space adjacent to Pike National Forest. The setting is quiet in November and the format places aid and personal items within easy reach during the timed effort. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
