Sand to Serengeti
Sand to Serengeti is a trail race held at Green Lakes State Park on May 16, 2027. The event features marked courses that pass beaches, lakes, and open fields, and free race-day photos are provided by a race partner.
The event offers two distances:
- 10 mile course that begins at the sandy beach, circles Round Lake, climbs toward the area referred to as the Serengeti, loops the top, and then descends back to the beach.
- 5 mile course that begins at the sandy beach, loops around Round Lake, and returns to the beach.
Aid and logistics: one aid station provides water at the intersection near mile 2 and mile 6.5; participants are advised to carry additional hydration or nutrition if needed. Park bathrooms will be open and parking is available in both beach parking lots. Packet pick-up is listed as TBD at Fleet Feet in East Syracuse.
Swag and awards: 10 mile finishers receive a finisher medal; 5 mile participants receive a sports towel. Overall and age-group awards are offered for both distances, and Fleet Feet Syracuse donated gift cards for top finishers and raffle prizes. The event supports the charity partner NAMI Syracuse, a 501(c)(3) organization focused on advocacy, support, public awareness, and education for people affected by mental illness.
Policies and notes: transfers between distances are allowed until March 31, 2027; there are no refunds after March 15, 2027. A trail footwear recommendation and a liability release are noted for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
