English's Ridge Rumble
The English's Ridge Rumble is an annual trail running event held at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, New York. Organised by Salt City Trail Racing, this event is USATF-sanctioned and serves as a season opener for the local trail community. The race takes place within a park known for its two rare meromictic lakes, which feature a distinct blue-green colour.
Participants can choose from three available distances:
- 50 km
- 20 Miles
- 10 Miles
The course consists of an approximately 10.4 mile loop with roughly 1,300 feet of elevation gain per lap. The terrain is varied, featuring a mix of technical sections with rocks and roots, double-track paths composed of mulch, gravel, or grass, and a small portion of paved park roads. The route passes through several landmarks within the park, including The Serengeti, Round Lake, the Powerline Bypass, and Quarry Hill, offering vistas of open fields and old-growth forests.
There are two aid stations available. One is located at the start and finish area at the Reserve Picnic Shelter, and a remote station is positioned at approximately mile 2.4 and mile 6.6 of each loop. These stations provide water, hydration drinks, fruit, snacks, and PB&J sandwiches. After the event, ramen is provided for runners, including vegan options.
The event has specific cut-off times for all distances, requiring all participants to reach the finish line by 3:00 PM. Registration is available online, with in-person registration offered on the morning of the race if the event has not sold out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
