Salt Lake Foothills Trail Races, May 2027
Salt Lake Foothills Trail Races is a multi-distance trail running event held in the foothills above Salt Lake City, Utah, organized by Open Range Races. The main venue and many course access points are near Hogle Zoo at 2600 S Sunnyside Ave. Registration opens August 6, 2026.
Distances offered include:
- 50 Miles
- 50K
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- 2K Family Loop
Courses use singletrack and mountain trails with sustained climbing and expansive city and Wasatch views. The 10K gains about 1,200 feet. The Half Marathon is a point to point with roughly 2,800 feet of climbing and finishes at the main venue near Hogle Zoo; runners must arrange their own transport to its start near Ensign Peak. The 50 Mile course introduced in 2026 includes about 10,300 feet of gain. GPX files will be available for all distances.
Aid stations will provide water, Nuun hydration, basic snacks, and conventional ultra aid station food; runners are encouraged to carry specific nutrition if needed. There are no drop bags; crews can access the emigration aid station at the Start/Finish where parked cars are allowed. Required kit includes 2.5L bladder(s) and a headlamp. Poles are permitted. Dogs are not allowed on course. The race organization may alter, delay, or cancel the event for safety in severe weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
