About the race
The Run for the Rescue is a 5K trail run and walk held in Blydenburgh County Park / Nissaquogue Lands in Smithtown, New York. The route runs on park trails and mixed surfaces including sand, dirt roads, hard packed trails and some pavement, and may be challenging at times.
Amenities at the event include an informal bag check area in the staging zone, park bathrooms located a few minutes' walk from the start and finish, hydration available at the finish, and refreshments supplied by All Round Foods and Waterloo Sparkling Water. Live results and same-day finish line photos are provided online, with additional event photos posted to social channels.
The event recognizes top finishers overall and by age group with categories that include 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, and 90+. A portion of event proceeds benefit Last Chance Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization; donations support the rescue's mission.
Parking options are available within Blydenburgh County Park, with primary parking recommended near Picnic Areas 1-5 accessed from Veterans Memorial Highway, plus secondary parking near the boat launch and additional lots near the dog park.
Participants may bring dogs to this dog-friendly park provided animals are kept on leash at all times, not left unattended, and runners with dogs start toward the back of the field for safety. Virtual participants receive bibs by mail; in-person bib pickup is available at Picnic Areas 1-5. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
