Rothwell Cakeathon
Rothwell Cakeathon is a trail running event based at Leeds Skelton Lake Services off the M1 (J45). The course starts behind the services and runs through Rothwell Country Park, using woodland, riverside paths, grass trails and some road. The route includes one notable undulation that provides a view of Leeds City Centre.
The event offers multiple race distances:
- Marathon - 5 × 5-mile loops plus 1.2-mile out-and-back
- 20 Miles - 4 × 5-mile loops
- 15 Miles - 3 × 5-mile loops
- 10 Miles - 2 × 5-mile loops
- 5 Miles - 1 × 5-mile loop
On-course support includes water and feed stations at approximately every 3 miles and marshals along the route. The event aims to be cupless and asks participants to bring a reusable cup or bottle. For safety, large over-ear headphones are not permitted; bone-conducting headphones or one ear in, one ear out are acceptable. Runners should remain alert at unmarshalled road crossings.
Finishers receive a bespoke medal and access to hot and cold drinks and a selection of cakes. The organiser donates 50p per participant to the RSPB. Parking is free at the services and car sharing is encouraged to reduce environmental impact. The event is licensed by the TRA under UKA rules. Entry prices range from £28 to £43.
